Welcome to our Journey #cakewaytothewest #stl250

I decided to start this blog to chronicle our adventures into experiencing Cakeway to the West, the celebration honoring St. Louis' 250th anniversary.

In honor of the big event, 250 four-foot high cakes were designed by local artists and placed at 250 of the area's most historical locations. Each location that was chosen, tells a story and was chosen for its value or sentimentality to St. Louis. 200 cake locations were chosen by the committee that set the whole thing up. The other 50 were submitted and voted on by area residents.

When my 16 year old daughter and I discovered the whole event, we decided it would be fun to visit all 250 of the locations over the course of the year. Unfortunately we got started a little late (May) and so we have to fit them all in before the end of the year. Which essentially means visiting 35 cakes a month until December when they will be removed. Yikes!

Can we do it? I have no idea. But we are determined and love many of the area attractions that were chosen and we enjoy learning about our city and the history surrounding it.

I spent the first 19 years of my life in St. Louis, Missouri and only moved away to get married, have children and eventually get divorced.

I returned back to St. Louis in August of 2000 and will probably never leave again. I have enjoyed raising my kids here, and showing them places I went as a child. Many of which have become their favorites over time, as well.

So we begin this journey, and we hope you'll enjoy riding along with us and reminiscing about memories created in the past at these locations as well as newly created memories that we will share.

Any question? Just ask.
Leave us a comment and let us know you found us, and if you too are doing the same. If you are not from St. Louis, and your town or area does anything like this, please share as well, we are loving the new people we have met because of this experience and cannot wait to get to know more.
